About Us

Virgil Buffington lives in Jamesport, MO; but was born and raised in Colo, IA.  Bryan Davis has always lived in Grinnell, IA.  They became friends through sled pulling in the last few years.  Virgil had always hoped to bring dynamometer pulling back to the Midwest.  Virgil's late father, Clifford Buffington, was the man who operated the machine when it was owned by the state of Iowa and traveled extensively through the Midwest putting on draft horse pulling contests.

About the Machine

The machine is still on the 1937 Ford truck that it was mounted on in 1940.  It has been restored to working condition and modifications have been made to the driver's platform and seat making it more user friendly.

2009 Schedule

Our first pull for 2009 was held at the county fairgrounds in Savannah, MO on June 20.  We then held contests at the Poweshiek Co. Fair in Grinnell, IA on July 25; the Midwest Antique Power Show in State Center, IA on August 1; the Nebraska State Fair in Lincoln, NE on September 5; and the final outing for 2009 was at Savannah, MO on September 25.

Since the machine had not been used for many years in the Midwest, there are many pullers who had not pulled on, or even seen a machine work.  The response from the pullers and the spectators has been great.

We are currently scheduling pulls for the coming 2010 season.  Feel free to contact either Virgil Buffington at 660-868-0159 or Bryan Davis at 641-990-0015.  We will update our Calendar page as we book pulls.
